Alkonost

Alkonosts nest on the Outer Isles and along the western coast of Enedal. They are smaller than the Sirin, though still roughly human-sized, and return to the same cliffs each year. They keep away from busy settlements.

People usually hear an alkonost before they see one. Its song can bring an old memory to the surface: a face, a house, a promise. The singer does not seem to choose which memory comes back.

Most Tarvai who meet one leave it alone. Near a nest, an alkonost will drive intruders off with its wings and talons. It does not sing in captivity, and no one has found a way to make it start again.
